PLANNING: Location Pt. 2

Below you can find some shots from the first day of filming on location, with an explanation of each as to why we used this area.

This is the derelict alleyway that the girl shows through her handcam shots. It is a perfect place as it has abandoned feeling to it, with old boxes and random debris lying around.
The red door here connotes the idea of an emergency, and also stands out, sort of highlighting the way the character needs to go. The idea of using this door came because of inspiration from a computer game, Mirror's Edge, in which the locations the character needs to go are highlighted in red.
This alleyway is also connected to the above photo.

The staircase here, being wooden and not seemingly too decorated, gives another connotation of abandonment or an eerie, not quite right atmosphere. This was used to show the girl reaching her saferoom, using match-on-action to show her running up it.
This shot is of the office in which the character uses as her saferoom. It is quite "lived in" and messy, giving a feeling of lack of time for organisation. We used it also because it is very normal, and could subvert the idea of terror for a short while. It gives a connotation of someone with a chaotic life whizzing in and out of the room without much care for it's state.
