RESEARCH: Target Audience

The PlanThe plan we have made is quite simple but we feel we can stick to it.
My role is to team up with Ella to create the survey - we want this made by 12/1/12. We will discuss our questions to use and use SurveyMonkey.com to create the survey.
Once we have access to Facebook.com or other forms of social network we will share them there to get them out to a wide audience.
The pictures here show how we shared the survey online through Facebook, Twitter and email, to attract wider audience such as teachers or adults.

Our Target Audience
Our target audience seems to be mostly based upon personal taste of films, rather than gender, age or race. Our survey showed a wide variation in age and gender, and we can see through that that personal taste is the main decider of who wants to watch a horror film.

Our Survey Says...

Question 1 & 2
Here we can see that more females responded to our survey, and that the age range was greatly split. This shows that a huge target audience.

Questions 3 & 4

Most of the people responding to our survey claimed they only watched up to three hours a week of horror movies, which could constitute a single movie or two shorter ones. The type is also widely varied, again showing a preference according to personal taste.

Question 5 & 6
The 5th question is hard to categorise as each preference is different, but question 6 shows that, although we had various results, the favoured aspects to a scene were either gore or a build up of tension. These are often to create suspense for the audience, or to make them feel uncomfortable, such as with gore scenes. These are probably preferred because they create a feeling of awkwardness or confusion, which then scares the viewer in the way the film is intended to.

Question 7 & 8

The majority of audiences wanted a male lead role, which could relate back to how there were more females taking the survey. It is also a mixed bag on what influences people to watch a horror movie, which again refers to personal tastes.

Questions 9 & 10

The company in which people watch movies with varies widely, but is mostly with friends. This gives an implication of making a movie easy to identify with a group of people, which might be something to consider, as then it feels more realistic to the group watching it.
Question 10 reveals that most people like their introductions to horror films to be filled with suspense, or to establish a good relationship with the characters. They also look for tension and perhaps an overlay of non-diagetic music to help establish this.

Conclusions
Overall, I think that our target audience is based heavily on personal preference. However, many different audiences seem to feel that suspense and development of characters create a good horror film, integrated with gore or violence. Due to this, we decided that our horror film introduction would need to build up a good concept of a story, as well as a spooky or scary foreshadowing of suspense and tension.
